Dr Shaheed was elected the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education on 1 August 2022. She was the inaugural UN Independent Expert and then Special Rapporteur in the field of Cultural Rights from 2009 to 2015.
Dr Shaheed has contributed to ongoing projects of the UNESCO Chair concerning Women and Girls and Cultural Heritage.
We congratulate Dr Shaheed on her appointment and thank her for her ongoing commitment to human rights globally, especially as they relate to culture.
