4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, Haymarket (Sydney 26 October – 15 December 2024)
4A.I. Elsewhere in India explores South Asian cultural futures through speculative fiction via transmedia art including film, interactive experiences, video games and sculpture. Artists Murthovic and Thiruda are led by Meenakshi, cultural cyborg building for the preservation of culture in the golden age of cyborgs circa AD2040. Meenakshi is the protagonist in their adventures inspired by iconic Indian classical dancer Jayalashmi Eshwar.
Sound architect Murthovic blends traditional South Asian sounds with futuristic elements, creating immersive auditory landscapes evoking nostalgia and anticipation. Visual artist and creative director Thiruda integrates 3D video games, motion-captured dance, and AI-generated art. Their collaboration results in a rich, multi-layered narrative delving into India’s past, present and imagined futures. The exhibition is a provocative exploration of South Asian multicultural heritage set again the background of a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
