Professor Behrendt AO was named the 2021 Human Rights Medallist by the Australian Human Rights Commission in recognition of her research, advocacy and creative contributions to Indigenous justice and the law, and the visual and performing arts over several decades.
Professor Behrendt has contributed to ongoing projects of the UNESCO Chair including as co-organiser of the Indigenous peoples and cultural heritage international research and capacity-building initiative.
We are pleased that Professor Behrendt and the Jumbunna Institute will also be part of the UNESCO-UNITWIN Network on Culture in Emergencies.
We congratulate Professor Behrendt on her award and thank you her for ongoing commitment to the rights of Indigenous peoples and protection of Indigenous cultures.
