In the leadup to the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development – MONDIACULT 2022 international conference hosted by Mexico in September 2022, Heritopolis the UN-Habitat UNI MetroHub Consortium on Heritage and Metropolis hosted a globinar across three time zones: Asia Pacific, Africa and Europe, and the Americas. The UNESCO Chair led the contribution from the Asia Pacific region.

The globinar theme of ‘new heritage dimensions for the 21st century’ marked 500years of the Magellan expedition – the first circumnavigation of the world – returning to Sanlúcar in September 1522 after three years – a round-the-word globinar shaping future heritage policies for UNESCO.  The themes and ideas arising from the event were distilled to inform UNESCO’s future work in the Culture sector on sustainability and heritage in urban settings.
