Professor Ana Filipa Vrdoljak contributed to the panel discussion the role, tasks and experiences of UNESCO, Blue Shield and NGOs in the protection of cultural property in the military operations and armed conflicts with Ms Krista Pikkat (Director, UNESCO Culture and Emergencies Entity), Professor Peter Stone (President of Blue Shield International), and Ms Joanna Farchakh-Bajjaly (Lebanon), chaired by Professor Alicja Jagielska-Burduk (UNESCO Chair). Vrdoljak’s contribution address the roles and obligations of each of these actors before, during and post-conflict.

Other panels covered CPP in recent conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine and Kosovo, and the roles of NATO and European Union in the field.

The hybrid conference hosted by the Polish National Commission for UNESCO held from 6 to 7 November 2024 was an official side event for the 70th anniversary commemoration of the 1954 Hague Convention and its Protocols.

UTS acknowledges the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, the Boorooberongal people of the Dharug Nation, the Bidiagal people and the Gamaygal people upon whose ancestral lands our university stands. We would also like to pay respect to the Elders both past and present, acknowledging them as the traditional custodians of knowledge for these lands.
